Science

Aim: To separate a solute from a solvent in a solution using distillation

Method: 1. set up the equipment as shown in the diagram
2. Add approximately50 m of water and a few drops of food coloring to your conical flask
3. light your bunsen burner Open the air hole and gently push the bunsen burner under the tripod
4. Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated. Turn your bunsen burner off

= We are using coca cola instead of salt water

Discussion: when we heated up the solution the gas from the coca cola it went up the tube then condensing back to liquid. if we had more time to finish it we would have seen how the solution was in the test tube and the sugar left in the conical.

  1. Hey Lily-Ray,
This sounds like an interesting experiment. I am guessing that you were looking at how much sugar can be found in coke? Where you have written 'as shown in the diagram' it would be great if you could include the diagram so that I know what it is meant to look like.
I look forward to hearing from you,
    Miss Morgan
